Tygervalley/Willowbridge
Over this weekend we decided to go to the Willowbridge outdoor market. Butternut absolutely loved this as there were lots of birds and insects flying about. He also received lots of attention and love from passer-bys.
From here we went to Tygervalley to go and do a bit of shopping. Butternut sat in the trolley and watched as everyone went past, being absolutely angelically well behaved....
We decided to try and see if BN would eat some Butternut Purity (knowing that he liked the steamed one that Grant was eating)...Well, we'd found a hit, he couldn't get enough, eating it off a plastic spoon and practically attacking me for more!!

A friend called Daisy
On Butternuts first few visits to his Gran & Grampa it became apparent the other cats were not keen on the idea of being Butternuts friends, however one member of the household was very keen to become friends with Butternut. The almost 3 year old Great Dane, Daisy! Butternut took to her immediately, smacking her floppy lips (no claws) and attacking her tail. Below are pictures of one of their "playdates". Since these Butternut & Daisy enjoy regular playdates when Butternut comes to visit. Daisy eagerly runs up to greet me whenever I go to my parents in the hope Butternut has come along!

Fetch!
Butternut has now decided he likes playing fetch. He has one of those fluffy worms that you buy at the local Vet Shops, which makes for a lovely fetch toy!
He runs up onto the arm of the sofa and drops his worm onto your lap and paws at it until you throw it for him. Once you have thrown it for him he races after it (sometimes skidding across the parquet flooring) collecting it, jumping back onto the arm and dropping it again...this can continue for up to 30mins sometimes, until he drops on the floor and decides it's time to groom!

Fish Hoek
On Sunday after Grant's hike, Butternut & I went to join him in Kalk Bay at Lucky Fish.
Butternut was very spoilt and got given some fish by Dieter (Hike leader). For most of our time there he sat on my lap enjoying the attention and love he was getting from everyone.
After we had finished having our drinks we decided to go to Sun Valley. I put Buttenut's booster seat on the passenger seat, where he quietly sits and watches the world go by.
We got to Sun Valley, put him in the child seat of a Woolies trolley and we were off. Once we got to the Vet Shop Butternut put the full act on, rubbing himself up and down every stand he could find, attempting to eat the dog treats on the counter. After 30mins of him showing off for anyone who would watch we decided it was time to go...
Once we got home, he curled up in a ball and slept for most of the day!

Buttenut Aug/Sept
Once he had gotten used to the harness we decided it was time to start trying to walk him.
We started off going around the block, which he wasn't too fond of as the car sounds scared him and the park around the corner was filled with too many dogs.
We decided it would be best to wait for him to have his "Op" before taking him out any further. So in September the deed was done, by 12pm I was receiving calls from the Vet saying please could I fetch him as he was awake and ripping up every last shred of newspaper.
We gave him about a week or two to heal a bit. Until in late September we took him on his first trip out.
Our first trip out was to Camps Bay, where there is a river that runs down through the suburb, here he had his first venture out, he encountered two beetles rolling a dung ball up the main path, quite a few bees, which he was very fascinated by, but yet instinctually scared...
He went right up to the river, almost jumping in! We then followed the river bank, where he went to the closest tree and climbed all the way to the first branch where he sat looking down on the river.
We spent the next 30mins letting him roam around until it was time to go.
After this success we decided it was time to explore more locations.
I will keep all of you up to date on all of his current likes, dislikes & antics!

Introduction to Butternut
This blog is about our 6 month old kitten, Butternut.
At the beginning of July 2012 we posted an advert looking for a kitten on Gumtree, a wonderful lady emailed us to say she had 2 four month old kittens that were up for adoption.
We went to meet the two kittens and instantly fell in love with this gorgeous kitten, who had such a huge personality.
He walked into our flat and he made it his home. We decided we would make him an inside cat and teach him to go for walks.
Initially he wasn't too keen on the whole "harness" thing...pretending to not be able to walk etc. However after much perseverance, leaving the harness on for extended periods of time, he started to enjoy being on the harness.
We started with visits to his Granny, which he absolutely loves...
